The televised and live stream Super Bowl 2014 date and time for is set for early February, as NFL football fans will await the teams for the latest edition of the big game. This year’s game has a historic nature already, as it will be one of the first “cold weather” outdoor Super Bowl games played in the history of the event. The latest location for the game is MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and NY Jets, neither of whom made this year’s matchup. As of this report, the tickets availability for the game is still somewhat plentiful, although prices are steep at third party ticket sellers online.
A report via Ashbury Park Press on Jan. 4 notes that there are a total of 80,000 tickets for the game at MetLife Stadium, and not all of the tickets have been distributed. However, two third party ticket sellers have at least a few tickets available. StubHub had over 2,000 tickets available as of the report, with the starting prices at $3,126.40 per ticket, while NFL Ticket Exchange (partners with Ticketmaster) had 133 tickets for a starting price of $3,120 per ticket. There were 1,000 tickets originally distributed by the NFL at $500 a piece, but fans had to win those in a lottery and they can’t be resold.
Among the factors that will drive demand for the tickets in the coming weeks will be the news involving weather and which teams will play. Examples were given that a team like the Broncos has a large overall fan base and could drive prices up. It’s also noted that if the New England Patriots get into the game, fans typically live close enough to New York area to drive to the stadium. Additionally, as the Super Bowl XLVIII date draws closer, weather reports will be key. Obviously fans aren’t going to want to drive in inclement weather such as a major snow storm, or sit outside in brutally cold temperatures to watch the game. However, if there’s reports of warmer, sunny or clear weather conditions, it could make demand for tickets a bit higher due to the location.
